FIBER CELEBRATION is a juried fiber arts show sponsored by the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild (“NCCWG”). 2020 marks the 46th year of exhibitions in Northern Colorado. It provides a well-publicized display for fiber artists and encourages competition with local, national and international peers. The show rotates locations between the different Northern Colorado communities of Fort Collins, Loveland, Longmont, Greeley and Estes Park. The show is national and international in scope and is open to all fiber artists. All fiber media are welcome, including spinning, weaving, dyeing, basketry, sculpture, felting, quilting, papermaking, knitting, beading, crocheting, embroidery and surface design. In recent years we have had more than One Hundred (100) entries from across the United States and internationally.
Fiber Celebration 2020 will be held at the Carnegie Center for Creativity in Fort Collins, and will be on display between June 17, 2020 through July 11, 2020. There will be an Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony on June 19, 2020 from 6 pm to 8 pm.
As a unique Fiber Arts Exhibit and the only juried show of fiber artists in Northern Colorado open to all fiber artists, this exhibit attracts visitors from throughout Colorado and the United States. In addition, this event is generally widely publicized in order to solicit entries, including advertisement in publications for fiber artists like “Handwoven” and HGA’s “Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot” that circulate nationally and internationally to a broad audience, as well as online calls for entry.
The major goals for this event are to attract fiber artists to share their work and then to exhibit that work to the Northern Colorado community and beyond. Each year, a nationally known juror has been chosen to select the entries from digital images of submitted work. This has become a prestigious show among fiber artists and allows the Colorado public to view the best there is to offer in the field. Events such as these encourage artists to present their best work to their peers and to the general public, thus supporting fiber artists and helping to perpetuate the fiber arts.
EDUCATIONAL EVENT: As part of the public opening of the exhibit, we host a reception and awards ceremony in which the juror gives a gallery talk. This is an educational event for all attendees and attracts many to the exhibit. In addition, some years the juror has also given an
additional workshop for educational purposes, primarily aimed at guild members, but also open to others.
Fiber Celebration exhibit attendees are generally local fiber enthusiasts from the entire Front Range, including but not confined to members of the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild and the other Front Range fiber arts guilds. As Northern Colorado is a major gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park, visitors from all over the world come to the communities of Northern Colorado. Events such as Fiber Celebration attract the attention of many of our visitors.
The call for entries in this exhibit is nearly the same each year, but the results are ALWAYS different. This occurs due to different jurors and different entries by contributing artists. The entries often reflect new fiber art forms that evolve each year and the fact that artists are always trying new, innovative approaches. This produces an exciting visual display that is unique, innovative and original.
Awards are given in each of the Five (5) categories for entries, as well as several special awards.
